[UPDATED] The Money Edition: Modeling Financial Values At Home
How to use money as a tool for change
Hey, Ready To Dad Crew!
It's great to have you here reading this special edition - The Money Edition!
I call this The Money Edition because as we celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy this week, we should remember his contribution to the economic conversation in the world. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision went far beyond civil rights. Dr. King spoke passionately about economic equity and justice. In his final years, he advocated for the Poor People’s Campaign, highlighting the role of wealth distribution and opportunity in creating an indeed just society.
For us as parents, Dr. King’s vision is a reminder: money isn’t just about transactions; Money is about transformation. It’s a tool that reflects our values and priorities, shaping our lives and the world we leave behind for our sons and daughters.
In This Week’s Newsletter:

JAVAREE TALKS
As dads, we have a unique opportunity to teach our kids that money is more than something to save or spend. It’s a resource that can be used to:
Support others through giving and charity.
Create opportunities for growth and learning.
Stand up for fairness and equality.
How to Bring This Lesson Home:
Share Stories About Money and Justice
Talk to your kids about Dr. King’s work for economic equality. Use examples they can relate to, like fairness at school or sharing with others.
Lead by Example
Consider family donations to a cause that aligns with Dr. King’s vision, like education or community programs. Show your kids how giving reflects your family’s values.
Emphasize Generosity Over Wealth
When discussing money, focus on how it can help people solve problems, not just accumulate possessions.
Dr. King reminded us that the arc of the moral universe bends toward justice, but only if we work to bend it. By teaching our kids to view money as a tool for good, we’re empowering them to carry forward his legacy in their own lives.
