JAVAREE TALKS
Life changes. A new school year brings earlier starts, earlier pick-ups, and now homework in the evenings. At first, the day felt rushed, and we had to figure out what could flex. Sometimes that means pushing dinner or bathtime back, but it always means being intentional about what really needs to happen in the day. This flexibility empowers us to stay in control of our family’s schedule.
Some nights, it’s Gracie’s Corner sing-alongs coming through the speaker. Other times, if it’s an artist’s birthday, we’ll turn it into a dance party, like when Beyoncé’s day came around earlier this month. And plenty of nights, it’s just piling on the floor to play with an action figure, bubbles, or a balloon (it’s incredible how much fun you can have with a simple balloon). These little rituals, filled with joy and laughter, may not look like much on paper, but they’re what keep our evenings from tipping too far into stress.
I’ve learned to keep a few of these go-tos ready for evenings when my energy is stretched thin, but I still want to close the night strong. Having those options means I don’t have to overthink it; I can lean on what works and stay present with my kids. Those small choices keep the beat going even when the tempo changes.
This week, try a quick family rhythm check-in. Ask, “What’s working right now?” and, “What’s one thing we could adjust?”
The routine may shift, but the connection stays steady, and that’s what your kids will remember.
These regular check-ins reassure us that we’re on the right track and keep us connected as a family.
