JAVAREE TALKS
Dads, it’s easy to feel we need to say a lot when asking our kids to do something, but less is often more. Kids don’t need lengthy explanations—they need clear, calm, and concise direction. Simple go-to phrases can help keep the peace and avoid unnecessary negotiation and frustration.
Acknowledge:
“I understand.”
“Gotcha.”
“I hear you.”
“I’m sorry you’re upset.”
“Thank you for sharing.”
“I see”
“Yes.”
Redirect:
“Stay with me.”
“Focus.”
“Freeze.”
“Pause and think.”
“Let’s try again.”
“My Let’s”
Repeating a calm one-liner after setting a limit shows empathy while preventing escalation. Keep your tone compassionate and avoid looking frustrated or angry. When we use clear, simple statements, we not only better guide our children but also reinforce boundaries without the need for long debates. It’s all about balance: being firm yet understanding while modeling the behavior we want to see.
