Hey, Ready To Dad Crew!
Happy New Year!
2026 is here! I really appreciate you being here. With so many newsletters out there, it means a lot that you’re sticking with Ready To Dad. We’ve grown because you’ve shared us with friends, family, and other dads who care about being present at home and at work.
The start of a new year can feel overwhelming, with big goals and expectations everywhere. But January doesn’t have to be stressful. We can begin the year with intention, awareness, and a gentle return to our routines.
This month, we’re focusing on easing back in without rushing. It’s about finding our balance after the holidays and deciding how we want to show up as dads before life gets busy again.

The shift into January can feel abrupt. The holidays end, routines restart, and suddenly everything is back online. Kids feel that transition too. Their sleep changes. Their emotions fluctuate. Their nervous systems adjust just as ours do.
For dads, January is a good time to pause and ask ourselves a simple question:
How do I want my presence to feel this year?
Not, what do I need to fix?
Not, what do I want to improve?
But, how do I want my kids to experience me?
Our kids don’t need us to be someone new. They need us to be steady. Someone who can reset gently. Someone who shows patience, curiosity, and how to make things right when plans change.
The start of the year isn’t about doing more. It’s about picking what matters most and letting that lead us forward.
Kids do best when things are consistent, especially after a big change. January is a great time to bring back steady routines at home. When we return to our routines calmly and clearly, our kids feel safer and more at ease.
This is also when kids notice how we handle changes. Do we rush, or do we stay steady? Do we react, or do we take a moment to respond? How we act now sets the tone for the months to come.
Dad Takeaways:
Ask yourself how you want your presence to feel this year.
Kids can’t change routines overnight, and neither can we.
Talk openly about getting back into a routine together.
January isn’t a race. It’s a fresh start. However, this year begins for you. Remember this: showing up with intention, even if it’s not perfect, is enough. We’re in this together.
