JAVAREE THOUGHTS
As we think about summer, thoughts of all the fun activities like festivals, concerts, beach outings, water play, and outdoor games. At least, that's how I often think about summer. With children, I think about what all the fun activities mean and how they can serve my kids.
Play is essential for helping our kids learn and grow and below are some important points to consider:
1. Why should we support connection over control: Prioritizing connection over control in parenting leads to positive engagement and learning. Instead of enforcing strict rules and expecting compliance, actual influence comes from understanding and supporting our children. When our kids feel understood and supported, they are more likely to engage positively and learn from their experiences.
2. Why should we embrace playfulness and curiosity: Our children are natural explorers, and play is their adventure and learning ground. By stepping into their playful world, we can ignite their creativity and problem-solving skills. Playfulness is not a distraction from serious learning but a journey of understanding the world. Incorporating playful activities in daily routines makes learning enjoyable and effective, and it strengthens the bond between us and our children, making learning a shared adventure filled with excitement and curiosity, reminding us of the joy and wonder of childhood.
3. Why should we redefine success: It’s crucial to redefine success in parenting. Instead of measuring success by societal standards like academic achievements, true success lies in the growth and development of our children’s unique abilities and interests. By celebrating small milestones and individual progress, we can fill our hearts with pride and satisfaction. This approach helps our children develop healthy self-esteem and resilience, encouraging them to pursue their passions and strengths confidently and fostering a supportive environment where they feel valued for who they are. So, let's shift continue to focus on personal growth and celebrate our children's unique qualities.
