JAVAREE TALKS
This time last year, Ready To Dad was starting to take shape. What began as a few notes on my phone turned into weekly reflections, parenting tools, and mindset shifts that I’ve had the privilege of sharing with you. These personal experiences have been the fuel for my reflections and insights.
This Father’s Day, instead of writing something new, I want to look back at what we’ve built and the profound lessons it has taught me about fatherhood. It's been a year of growth, learning, and most importantly, showing up.
“You don’t have to do life alone.” I wrote this in a post about emotional resilience. I keep coming back to that line, not just for our kids, but for us. Fatherhood doesn’t require perfection, but it does require connection. And that includes support for us as well.
“Your child isn’t giving you a hard time; they’re having a hard time.”This reframe changed everything for me. When my son melted down because I brought the “wrong” snack or couldn’t pick him up after surgery, I remembered that his reaction wasn’t personal. It was developmentally normal.
“Discipline isn’t about control; it’s about connection.” Instead of just setting boundaries, try to explain the reason behind them. This can help your child understand and respect the rules, fostering a stronger connection.
This reminder came during a period when I found myself repeatedly setting boundaries. The breakthrough? Less lecturing, more relating. Because kids don’t learn from fear, they learn from safety and consistency.
“Sometimes you need a little story to get them moving.” Remember the dinosaur stomps to get out the door? Or the ninja tiptoes up the stairs? Using imagination turned resistance into cooperation.
“Your presence is the best gift you can give.” Whether you’re packing lunches, texting your co-parent about pick-up, or simply lying on the floor pretending to be a jungle gym, that is fatherhood. Not the highlight reel, the real moments.
Father’s Day might be filled with gifts and cards; that’s great, but what matters most is that we continue to show up for ourselves, our children, and our partners.
So today, I’m raising a toast to you, my fellow dads and parents, for being part of this journey and sharing your experiences and insights. Your support and engagement have made this past year truly special.
For the nights you held it together for bedtime, for the deep breaths between the chaos, and for every time, you chose presence over perfection.
We’ve covered a lot this year. And we’re just getting started.
Happy Father’s Day!!!
Let’s keep going. Together!
